Hello, I just installed windows 2000 pro on my 98se system (clean install after reformat) and after it started up there were some compadibility issues, so now I need to uninstall windows 2000 and reinstall 98se (another reformat probably), but whenever I try to get to the command prompt it freezes (by pressing F8 on the loading bar thing, then going to safe mode with command prompt, it freezes after the status bar fills completely, while still in DOS) is there another way to get into command prompt, is there a way to get my uncompadible Universal USB Controller to work on win2k? Thanks in advance.

you need a bootable dos floppy disk with cd rom drivers to install windows 98. if you left the file system as fat32 when you upgraded then you need the format.com file to format your disk. if you upgraded to ntfs then you need fdisk.exe to delete the partition and then create a new one.

if you want to try and get your usb controller to work with windows 2k, try the manufacturers website for updated drivers.

its a VIA USB Universal Host Controler, and it says its unsupported. Can I get drivers for it, even if its 'unsupported'?

okay, I sucessfully installed the drivers, now the USB controllers being identified by windows, but windows itsself wont load. It either freezes on the windows is now loading screen (after the dos loading bar, before windows itsself loads) the blue fade bar thing keeps going, but it freezes right in the middle. Then in all of the save modes, it freezes on the end of the dos bar before the one that hangs on the regular boot comes up, it freezes the same as boot normally during enable boot logging and VGA mode, it comes up completely during debugging mode, but then freezes like 2 minutes after boot, which doesn't give the usb enough time to install itsself. I think I might be missing files, so I'm going to reinstall windows ontop of the current windows. Is this a good idea? I have all of the windows updates, and how can I do this? I cant get into any prompts. When I put the cd in (my bios settings are cd first, floppy 2nd, harddrive 3rd) it just normally boots. Do I need boot disks? If so, how can I get some? Thanks!
