Comment: I have a P4 2GHz PC with a intel D845GEBV2 MoBo, Adaptec 19160 controller, 18GB Seagate Cheetah SCSI HDD. I'm running Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 3. Periodically when I turn on the PC it says something like "Please reboot and choose a valid boot device." If I reboot sometimes it boots windows fine and other times it gives me the same message. Haven't had any luck searching MS or Adaptec sites. Any info would be great.

Reply: (edit)Something to watch for. With Adaptec cards, they will post whether or not the BIOS was installed and the drive detected. Keep an eye on this info and note if it shows the hard drive and BIOS installed messages if you get the boot device error.

Reply: (edit)Following on from Kurts advice... If the problem is the auto-detection of the scsi drive, then some SCSI cards have an option to spin up the drive sooner/or to wait longer for detection. I'm not sure on the exact option or name, just remember having to do something along the same lines to get a drive working years ago... More than likely there is not an option for this on newer cards... :(
