Does anyone have a good way I can backup my Windows 2000 PC to my External USB Maxtor Hard Drive. I would Like to to find a good way to do this. I have tried Ghost but it won't work. Any ideas?

The Backup util on W2K is pretty good, much better than earlier versions. You can assign the path and filename so that the backup file(s) go to the USB drive when hooked-up. Takes a while, but that's unavoidable with so many files. You can backup every file on your machine, including registry settings, or choose to skip certain folders and/or files.

The biggest catch is sheer bulk, as the files aren't compressed. I've zipped them up in the past, with 40-60% compression typical. I always kept a DOS copy of Unzip.exe with 'em just in case. Also, some utils compress during backup. Another catch, is you'll lose some data if you restore stuff from a FAT32 volume, onto an NTFS one. If you're NTFS, best to restore to NTFS.
