Hi,
Has anyone had a problem with cracking in windows 2000 over audio. I have a geforce ddr and a sound blaster live card, when i play on mp3 and copy some files from one drive to another i get a crackling on the audio.
My system spec is
amd k6-3 450
192 meg of ram
Creative Geforce 256 DDRThanks

I am having the same problem. I, too, have a sound blaster live audio card, with an AMD K6-3 500 processor. I have noticed that I only experience crackling over the audio when anything is being read from the hard drive. Could this be a problem with the Sound Blaster Live drivers?

Hi Gareth,
I dont know if it is a problem with the live drivers. I also have windows 98 on as well and the problems does not happen in 98. It seems very strange that it only happens with people who have geforce cards sblive cards and k6 3 cpu, maybe there is some interaction between the hardware

Ok, here's the deal: GeForce cards have major issues with any AMD processor, which causes a lot of problems. I have Win2K with GeForce 256 and SB Live, but I'm running duel PIII450, no probs. Thing you'd want to do: Get a real processor, that'll help.

Do NOT buy Intel. AMD works just fine, if you know how to use a computer. Here's a few tips for the BIOS setup (if you have AMD with Nvidia card):
In Advanced chipset features: Enable(After this, my problems with SB Live! simply disappeared), also: Disable

That message really got f***d up.

In Advanced chipset features: Enable Memory Hole (After this, my problems with SB Live! simply disappeared), also: Disable Video BIOS cacheable, Disable Video RAM cacheable, Set AGP Driving control to Manual and select A8 (GeForce only)
In Integrated Peripherals: Disable IDE prefetch mode.
Ofcourse there's more you can do, but these are the important one's when using any Nvidia based graphics card on an AMD system. Hope it helps.

I have had the same problem but only since I loaded DirectX8. I also have a problem where the creative labs file devldr32.exe blows up all the time, it is the creative labs cd driver and it hangs my machine for like 2 minutes everytime I start up a program. Has anyone seen this: I have a dell with a Geforce2 GTS 64MB DDR and SB Live!

AMDMan - thank you very much! I almost abandoned Win2k Pro as my home OS, trying every sound and vid driver I could get my hands on, but your BIOS settings did it for me.
Thanks - you made my Christmas!

Havn't tried this yet, but everyone i speak to (ie, nvidia, creative) deny there is a problem, or just don't get back to me. I think its shocking there is no well publisised fix for this!!
Anyway, I am using Windows 2000, AMD K6-2 333, Diamond V550 (nVidia TNT!!), and a SB Live! Platinum. So Its not just geForce. Strange it does work under WIndows98, something to do with the NT HAL??
