Windowed Command Prompt

I've got some old DOS games that I run through a command prompt in W2k, but I'd like to be able to run these games in a window while I do other things.
The problem is that when I window the command prompt it freezes the game, and I can only start it running again by going full screen.

No, there's no way to play old DOS games in a window, as they usually require VGA resolution, while Win 2K runs in SVGA mode at least. Screen resolution is a global feauture involving all the desktop, as it sets the physical behavior of the video device. The only way to run old games in a window is to use an emulator, as DosBox.
Summary: When I run a program (like MS-DOS EDIT) in a Command Prompt window it appears to hang, usually after a few keystrokes. What's really going on is that the display for the Windows is not being updated....
