The upgrade from ME to Windows 2000 was never supported by Microsoft. The reason is that Windows 2000 is actually older than ME. Windows 2000 was at one time supposed to be the final merging of the 9x (consumer ) and NT (business) product lines. For a number of technical reasons that didn't work out and Windows 2000 was released primarily for business use. ME was later released to generate some revenue from the consumer line until XP was completed.
