Win98 boot disk to start Win2000

Comment:
Is it possible to use a windows 98 boot disk, to start a PC that has windows 2000? That's to be able to have a pure DOS mode (no emulation) without any GUI.
Isn't there a problem with the file system? Do I have to have Win2000 in FAT32?

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking.
yes, you can boot a win2k computer with a 98 disk but unless it has fat32 you won't be able to access the drive unless you get some dos ntfs drivers. but it will not boot into win2k
does that help?

Yes. thanks! it helps.
I wanted a pure DOS mode to do things like deleting some files that Windows doesn't let me ("file in use"). So if i can just boot with a Windows 98 boot disk, i thought i could do it.
So there are really some DOS ntfs drivers? Is it some files i could put on the win98 boot floopy?

Just run the winnt32.exe with the "/cmdcons" attribute, this way you will get a option to choose command line, should normal bootup fail or the need for command line is present. No need for win98 floppy anymore... :)

ntfsdos from sysinternals.com allows you to (read-only) access an ntfs area with the freebie version; there is $$$/£££ version that allows allows read/write.
