I did a clean install of W2kServer on a box that originally had Win98 (Dell, P3, w/ Maxtor40gb). After botching the uninstall of a server component, I decided to just reinstall the OS. I had 4 partitions on the Maxtor drive: c=10gb(ntsf),d=20gb(ntsf),e=7gb(fat32),f=.25gb(fat16). So I started W2kS cd, said install in c partition, confirmed choice, and when install restarted the computer I got message "operating system missing". I'm thinking I need to reset my boot sequence to include harddrive - but I get same thing. So next I re-format that partition, choosing ntsf, but same thing happens. A web search on that error advises "format as fat32 instead of ntsf", which I do, then re-install, but upon re-start I get message "error reading disk". So, next I removed all partitions (using w2ks cd), re-partioned, reformatted (tried both fat32,ntsf), but continue to get same problems. Can anyone explain in simple language what's happened and how to fix this? I've read a little about possible driver problems and master boot records problems, but the OS installed correctly once using only drivers from w2ks cd. I don't understand what's missing this time that wasn't missing when I first (successfully) installed. Thanks in advance!
