trying to connect a new upgrade of win2k from win98, cable moden worked fine in win98. I have correct NIC win2k drivers installed. I cannot get cable to connect in win2k, when I try to make a new connect for my cable modem ( Make a new connect/ dial-up /connect through a LAN/ i connect through a LAN/ auto discovery/ no/ finish) I do not connect to the internet and no icon in in the network and connections screen!, if i make a bogus VPN, or a dial-up acct an icon stay's.. and the reason I need an LAN icon is so i can right click on it to assign a Tcp/ip protocall to my NIC card, 9 i'm in a catch 22) Please!!!!!! help! i'm going crazy.. I've tried all sorts of the above combo's, no luck. i have my computer name and workgroup set correctly as well.
Heeeeeeeeeeelp!

Ok, I made a folder C:\intel ( for my intel nic card) downloaded latest win2000 file from intel networking/support site; the file is for win98 and win2k... i dl'ed to a floppy. I installed the floppy to mt win2k computer and loaded the software to my C:\Intel folder, I found the specific file for win2k, ( not the win98 file ) 'net55ib.inf' went to hardware/ device mgr and updated driver for my NIC, then I forced it to use specific file C:\intel net55ib.inf and not I get a LAN network icon in new connection's! yippie! I still need to install tcp/ip protocal, when I right click on properties, select add a protocal I only get the choice to add dcl (<--spelling? ) or allple tcp/ip . ?? only 2 choices of tcp/ip to add?? I'll try add components from win2k cd, see if that will help.
