Win2K-Explorer Crashes...getting worse

Sort of a odd one here, at least it is the first time it has happened to me. While in the Win2K desktop, with no other applications running I attempt to do a file search. It doesn't matter what, I can't even get passed typing the first 2 letters of what I am looking for....voila...the entire desktop disappears briefly and refreshes to the original desktop, but without the search window. It has closed down and exitted. I have done all obvious tests such as virus, scandisk, regitry clean up (all by System Suite 4.0). So I remain miffed as to how to fix this? I would appreciate any help, and thanks ahead of time The problem is getting worse now I can't type anything into the Start > Run box! Any help on this one would be appreciated. Thanks BM

I do unfortunately not have a solution, but I believe I do exactly have the same Problem. It is not related to the Run box etc. it is the Explorer.exe that does not respond. I have the same on my system currently and am looking for help. In the moment I open the explorer, the system has about 2 !!! minutes delay for any keyboard or mouse input and the explorer itself does not respond anymore. the problem is that I can't even install a service pack, since I can't get to the file to execute it.
any help appreciated.

sounds like explorer crashing for stupid reasons, I am guessing that nobody will be able to give you an answer. sit tight for a little while, wait to see if anyone does, but then I would wipe and reinstall the whole OS as Garfield said.

I have had a similar problem with explorer, tried to get help from the MS forum with no success. The modirator of the group was very knowledgable but still after a week I gave up and format and re-installed everything. I belive it was started by a trial ware program I loaded, didn't like and removed. After that all hell broke loose. Win2k is still new to all the 3rd party software devlopers so they haven't gotten up to speed compatiblity wise, (even Norton caused crashes until recently).
