When I shut down Win2000, it tells me it's ok to turn off my computer. Usually, under Win9X, or Win2K on other computers, it powers off. I'd like to know why it dosn't shut itself off. :o)

Please Advise.

In Regedit:
Hkey_lokal machine\software\microsoft\winnt\currentversion\winlogon
There is a key (power down after shut down)with the value 0 , you only have to change it to the value 1.

Or just hold the power button down for a few seconds.

I believe the easiest way to fix it so it shuts down automatically instead of letting it tell you it is safe to shut down, is go Start, Settings, Ctrl Panel, Click on the Power icon, and I believ you select the Allow for advance power function, or something along that lines, your pc should just shut down after you have this option picked, hope this helps.

My problem is the opposite! I want the machine to stop at the message "It is now safe to power off". My Win2k does shut down the power supply, and I don't want it to. What should I do?

It is in the same spot as my last posting, Start, Settings, ctrl Panel, click the power icon, but unclick the advanced power setting

I recently installed win 2000 and now my pc won't shut down, it just keeps restarting. I made the registry change as mentioned above and APM is selected.... still no luck. Any ideas?

I had this same problem and changed the settings as mentioned above and it didn't work. I wound up having to download a bios update for my motherboard. My computer finally began to shut down by itself only after I formatted and reinstalled win2k...there might be a way to get it working without formatting after updating the bios also.
