I've just added two gigs to my 2 gig machine. It now sees 2.5+ gigs. Can I bring my Win2K OS closer to XP's 3.5 gig limit?

Stating How much Total RAM you have installed would be helpful. Win2000 should be able to run 4GB. The actual amount will be less due to overhead. As you stated 3.5GB is about right.

Your MBoard may have its own set of limits that could be less than 4GB. If you added 2GB of RAM and your total doesn't equal what you expected then the RAM you added may not be compatible with your computer.

Go to Crucial.com and use thier online memory configator or the system scanner to find out what RAM is compatible. I suggest you first remove the latest addition before checking.

Sorry to be unclear. I had 2gigs installed: 2 one-gig Corsair DDR2 800. Into the two slots remaining I inserted another, identical pair. The Belarc system reporter finds all the memory in all four slots. The mobo is an Asus from last year's line; adequate to most anything. I'm puzzled as to why Win2K sees *something*, but only about half-a-gig more than it saw before I inserted the new memory.

The density of the new ram may be the issue of the total number of banks may exceed the MBoard allowance. As I said, check with Crucial.
