I have 3 computers on my personal network here. Each with its own IP (from a DHCP serving router). I have a folder marked "Share" on each computer which is file shared with the network with full control for both EVERYONE and ANONYMOUS users. Yet every time we go to click on the remote computers name, it forces me to type in a user name and pw before it even shows me the Share folder. We have also had the same problem with the one shared printer. Every now and then it becomes unavailable and we have to all reattach the sucker with a valid user name and pw. Each computer has a main account in the name of its user and an account called "Share". The computers are always logged in under the main accounts. Any ideas why I am getting all these password issues and how I can fix that? I would love it to just remember the damn user and pw once so I mustnt retype it everytime I want to access the other computer.
Thanks

What a client connects to a W2k computer, the w2k computer wants to know who it is. If the computer attempted to make the connection is not known by the host machine, that is, it doesn't have an account on it, it will ask for the credentials. To correct your problem, create a user account on each machine for every user that may connect to it. So, if you have user 1, 2, and 3. Create a user 1, 2, and 3 on each machine. The password on the accounts must match the password they use to log in with. This should fix your problem.

The Everyone and Anonymous are used more in a domain networked setting than in a peer to peer (which is what it sounds like you have)....

Thanks guys for the tips. I went ahead and created all the accounts on all the computers and now it all works like a charm. Sorry for the ignorance... I am a recent convert from the crash prone 9X series who suffered one crash too many!
