I use three partitions : c & d ( both fat32 )are used for my os's and on e is all my data stored. Anyway, I installed Win2000 on the d partition, after that I installed win ME on the c partition. This worked all fine, but I'm not that impressed by win ME so I descided to delete it. I formatted my c partition and installed win98se on the c partition. The win2000 Boot files where stored on the c partition, because my system doesn't boot to win2000 anymore, bootmanager doesn't work ( logical ). So my question is : How can I recover my win2000 bootfiles without having an emergency recovery disc??
I prefer that the bootfiles will be stored on the d partition..... Thanx for the coorperation

I don't know if this will work for you, but you can try booting your system with either the windows 2000 setup disks or the CDROM (if your computer supports it) there is a repair option in there, try running that.

Thanx, but this won't work, because I don't have an emergency recovery disc. He needs one because he can't find win2000 although it is totally intact ( except for the startup files ). What I think is that my mbr has been overwritten by win98se. I have 2 solutions in mind but I don't know if they will work : just install win2k over the previous one, or use a recovery disk from a win2k that was installed to the same drive/path.... will this work ??

Hey,

you do not need to reinstall. After booting with the Win2k-CD you can choose to repair an existing installation of Win2k. There are two Options: 1. Use RC to Repair, 2. Use Emergencydisk.

Use Option 1 and you will get to a commandline. There you have several possibilities:

1. Use command 'fixmbr' to repair the masterboot-record!

2. Use command 'fixboot' to write a new boot-record. e.g. fixboot d:

3. Try to find additional information on the rc of Win2k. There are a lot more things you can do to your system.

I think this has to work.

Greetings.
