I have a system that has service pack 4 install, but the files were never archived when it was install. Now I am trying to remove service pack 4, but there is no removal in the add and remove programs. Is there another way to remove sp4?
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

We need to remove it, because mcafee clients are unable to update through our local server dat files. Keeps comming up with sitestat.xml cannot be found. I have verified that the files does exist and is accessible through the browse, but when we execute the update mcafee, we get the error that the file is not found. I checked the log for mcafee and it says that it was access denied. I found and article that explaines that if you install sp4 the impersonate a client after authentication Local Security Settings looses its functions. I follow the kb article http://support.microsoft.com/defaul... but no luck. So, might next move is to remove sp4 and go with sp3 and see if we can get the 100 system back to normal.

Try this: use the win2k installation CD and do 'repair a previous installation'. Let it go... and at the end you will have a wellworking Win2k SP1.
