Hello,
I'm experiencing the following:
In the small network I'm having (a hub with three PC's, a network printer and a router), I'm able to ping to all from my Win2K server. However I'm not able to get the web based setup page of my Snapgear router allthough I'm able to do it from any of the other clients. I can't even print on my network printer. Continuously I get the following message 'An error occured while printing document ... on ... Do you wan't to cancel or retry?'.
The clients are only able to log on my domain if the two NIC's are connected to the hub. If only one is connected then I can ping but not share any drives (my network neighbourhood isn't only contains the server).
I allready tried to give each NIC another network address (f.e. 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1). But then still no shares are possible. Disabling one of the NIC's also doesn't work.
Does anyone have a similar problem? And how can I solve this? Thanks,
Benedikt

You shouldn't be changing the number in the 3rd octet you should only change the number in the last octet of the ip addresses.
For example:
You said you used the ip's 192.168.1.1 & 192.168.2.1
You should be using 192.168.1.1 & 192.168.1.2
Only change the numbers in the last section (octet) of the ip address and keep the first 3 sections the same on all computers. Use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
I am not sure if this is your problem but it will help in the long run.

Hi,
Well at this moment I'm running the 2 NIC's with IP address 192.168.1.1 & 192.168.1.2. And it seems to use one NIC for logging on to the server and transmitting files and the other for things like pinging,...
In fact I want to get rid of one NIC, so now I disabled it. The problem however is, How can I do a correct setup since I need the two for the netsork to work. Is it sufficient to create the DNS and DHCP again from scratch or do I need to reinstall Win2K server?Benedikt

Why do you need two nics? I have a similar setup to yours using a home network connected to a hub and cable modem to access the Internet. All with one nic in my server. Unless you are using the w2k server as a router, you should only need one nic in it. Maybe I'm missing something here. Connect all computers and the router to the hub. Use can use whatever IP addresses you want but your router is probably using the 192.168.1.x address range with a mask of 255.255.255.0. - By the way, when giving IP address info for multiple computers it does absolutely no good to give the IP addresses without also telling what the subnet mask it. Saying that you use two addresses of 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1 does not mean they are on seperate networks. There is no way to know that unless you say what the subnet mask is. - All computers and the router need to be on the same network. The router will have two IP addresses. One interface of the router will need to be set to the same network ID as your client computers. The other interface of the router will need to be connected to the internet and have a valid IP address probably assigned by your ISP.
Unless you are doing NAT or something else with your server, I still don't see why you need to nics in there.
