The system boots and I can logon, but as soon as the desktop is displayed with icons, my problem starts. I have my QLBar at the top of the screen and it's hidden. As you point to the top of the screen the start bar and QL, and system tray then drop down. As the desktop loads, the launch bar drops down, and the icons disapear. Then the launch bar retracts, the icons reappear, and the cycle repeats. I can stop the on/off cycle by bringing up the task manager. Severl process are running as expected, but you can see the system idel jump from 1 to 99, and the explorer.exe starts, takes 90+ cpu time, then goes to 0, and then disappears. Each time explorer starts or stops, the desktop switches.
I've tried Last know good, but no change. I've rebooted in safe mode, renamed explorer.exe and copied a fresh version from the 2000 cd, no difference.
Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

1st: last known good startup only records registry settings up to logon, after you logon successfully that's a good known startup, that's only to protect you from driver changes like if you change the SCSI drivers and your PC crashes before you even see the GUI.
have you looked at your registry under
HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and seeing anything goofy in there?
have you tried loggin on as a different user?
have you scanned for viruses?

I had the same problem. The solution is to download spybot search and destroy http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html
install, update definitions, run a full search and fix whatever it founds. That will solve the problem.Federico Feraboli
