Hi all,

Wonder if someone could give advise on creating a bootable CD that has the Windows 2000 Recovery console on it only. I wish to create it from the 4 Win2K floppies but not sure how you can do this or if it is at all possible?

I have extracted the 4 Win2K floppies to a folder on my HDD called I386, Removed from the folder the 4 files named disk2 disk3...
Then in the file "TXTSETUP.SIF", under [SourceDisksNames.x86],
I have replaced "disk102", "disk103" and "disk104" with "disk101" with notepad.
Added to the root of the proposed CD the Windows 2000 CD flag files : CDROM_NT.5 and CDROM_IP.5 then Added the w2ksect.bin to the root & will hopefully create an ISO image to burn to CD.
would also like the menu "Press any key to boot from CD which I think is attributed to the Bootfix.bin file so I have added this to the I386 folder also.

Have I missed anything out any advise from you win2K Guru's would be much appreciated!

Regards,

Dave

Hi Jack,

Many thanks for the prompt reply however, this is not about slipstreaming Win2k. If I wanted to slip stream anything into win2K I tend to use a portable version of Nlite, a very easy tool to use for this purpose.

This request is about making a custom recovery console boot CD that is usually loaded by inserting 4no floppy disks or sometimes loaded from the Win2k install CD.

Regards,

Dave

I understand what you wish to do. The person hosting the site I linked to seems to be very knowledable and the steps include options that may apply to your situation. You may want to skim thru those steps as the process is similar, especially the files required to make the CD bootable.
