Guys I am bewildered. Somewhere during installing codecs and getting the FRUCTA virus I believe, my Win2k Pro install has morphed into Win2k SERVER. Complete with Server Family bootup splash screen, shutdown screen, "Server" start menu banner, etc. Some software won't even install due to it reporting itself as Server instead of Pro. I've went through all the updates on this fresh install and I have no idea what has happened.
Any thoughts on what caused this and how to get back to Pro without a reinstall? I can reinstall but I'm afraid it'll happen again if I don't know what caused it in the first place.
I know this OS is old and I need a new pc, etc but at this time I cannot upgrade either.
Thanks.

Sounds more like you were hacked instead of a virus.
Personally I would wipe the drive and reinstall pro from scratch or there maybe a backdoor for the hacker.
Make sure you install a software firewall and antivirus/antispyware BEFORE you connect to the internet if you are not behind a router.

Nah it was a virus - I found the files.
I think one of the updates was responsible for it. Perhaps I downloaded an NT update or something.
