Newbie question alert ::::

I'm trying to do a peer to peer with Win2K.
I can't ping either comp / net view only shows local info.The NICs are installed properly.Basically when looking in Network neighbourhood I can only see the local comp/shares.
here's the settings so far

How are they networked together? If you have just a network cable, i.e. Cat5, between the two computers then it has to be a crossover cable.

I'm using CAT 5 crossover cable.I had a P2P network going fine with Win Me + Win 2K,but I wanted to do 2 with Win2K...Am i supposed to have a user that has the same details on both comps ? e.g. same user name + password ??

wild shot............but try changing the ip naming from a 198 to a 192.etc..... see if it picks up then .....

I agree, change IP as stated above.
Also make sure the GUEST account is enable on both PC's.

Can you ping the PC's NIC card successfully?
(127.0.0.1)

You should be using the reserved IP subnet 192.168. etc., though this is not the root of the problem. You need to set the default gateway on each PC to the other's IP address.

DOH !!
Of course!A stupid mistake brought on by extreme sleep deprivation.
It's all working fine now , so thanks for the help fellas.
