OS: Windows Me
CPU/Ram: PII 233, 64MB RAM
Comment:

I have a computer (PII 233MHz, 64MB RAM, 6.4GB) that is currently running on WinMe, and is slow and buggy as hell.

Now I want to get rid of WinMe, and I can't decide if i'm going to reinstall Win98 (I had it before Me, and it runned very fine) or install Win2000... Will Win2k be slower than WinMe?

Help me choose!

Thanks!

If you don't want to upgrade RAM and/or HD, stick with '98, since you're familiar with it. On your machine W2K will certainly operate slower than '98. Why not just do a complete reinstall of ME though?

I don't see why Win Me would run so slowly since its pretty much the same as 98 i would try disabling some services on ME first expscially the system restore feature and see how it goes. but if you have to change i would recommend going back to 98 coz you would not be happy with the performance of 2000 with your spec.

W2K needs more resources to run that either 98 or ME, so given your system specs, W2K probably will run slower. You may want to look at some of the other things that could be causing it to run slow (i.e., full hard drive, file fragmentation, etc). W2K is more stable and (in my opinion) is a better overall choice, however due to your specs, I'd recommend using 98. At some point in the near future, you're going to need to upgrade your hardware and move up to 2000 (or above). ME is the worst (least stable) OS that MS has produced.

Well thanks to everyone, with your advices I'm goona come back to the good ol' times of Win98!

Since it's a secondary computer for my lil' sister, I don't really want to upgrade anything ... and she probably doesn't even notice it's slow! She'll have to live with an old OS, but, well it's still better than a buggy OS!

Be nice to your lil' sister and at least increase the RAM to 128Meg (even to 256Meg); '98 will run a lot faster - especially on games etc... RAM is cheap these days.
