win2k not shutting down

i have a problem with shutting down win2k. every time i want to shut down the screen just goes black then i have to press restart and then my pc does not save what i have just done. so i lose all the files i have just downloaded. because i did not shut down properly, on start up my pc does a scan then it says my files are been trunctuned and then i lose it. how do i stop this from happening. is this confusing or do you no what i am going on about. i am such a newbie i do not no how to fix this simple problem. please help!!!

By chance do you have Roxio CD burner software (version 4 or 5 ) installed? There are known bugs with this software and W2K that produce the shutdown problem you are having. Inspite of Roxio's comments on their web-site, generally the solution seems to be to remove the Roxio software and replace it with something like Nero etc. which does not conflict with W2K?
