Win2k lock up on first scree

I tried putting a new hard drive in my computer as a slave to my old hard drive that has Win2K installed on it. Well, the drive was defective. Upon rebooting my system to start up with my old hard drive, Windows froze when loading my desktop. I shut the power off manually and tried to restart the computer. Now, whenever I try to load up windows, it freezes on the "Starting Windows....." Screen, the generic black and white screen with the bar at the bottom. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong, or how I could go about getting the information off of my drive onto another? I no longer have the defective drive hooked up to my computer.

The simplest way to transfer your info at the moment is to hook it as slave to another drive with an operating system, trnasfer your stuff then format the "bad" drive. ALternatively you could use the windows recovery console (insert the windows 2000 disk and boot off that, enter the recovery/repair console...R i think it was). Yet another solution is a boot program that backs up your data onto cds/dvds. I think norton ghost has something on those lines, but am not oto sure. Spinal Oh, and I nearly forgot, no post of this kind would be complete without a derogatory comment on how you should perfom frequent backups. Any non backed up data should be considered data you don't care losing (thats how it works on my network at least) Spinal
