Subject: win2k I/O Device Error on CD-R HELPOS: windows 2000 professionalCPU/Ram: 1.2ghz thunderbird, 512k |
Comment: I have a problem. under windows 2000, my HP 9900j (cd-rw/dvd/cd-r combo), has worked like a dream for the last year and a half, but now it constantly gives I/O device errors. "D:/ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." I have two machines, both on a network together, both running win2k, both athlon/amd hardware, but very different systems. My machine is running a 1.2ghz thunderbird on an Aopen AK777 motherboard with 512mb of pc2700 ram. My hubby's machine is running a 750 athlon, 256mb of pc100 ram. The only identical hardware in them is the HP 9900j cd combo, mine was bought a year and a half ago, and his was bought a year ago, and the only software similarity is windows 2000. The first computer started having this error about a month or more ago, and the second computer began having the same error today. We scanned both computers for viruses, the device manager on both machines says that the device is working properly, rebooted many times, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and the HP record now software, read countless faqs and even danced in a circle around a fire waving a chicken and chanting "work damn you work". Any advice would be appreciated! Please send replies to nospamorelse@wi.rr.com or just post them here. Thanks!

Reply: (edit)oh, I forgot to add that on both machines, DLA is enabled, and that every once in awhile i can get it to work and read a cd (usually if i open and close the tray repeatedly in frustration, and for some strange reason, if i put black and white in and start it right away it works.

Reply: (edit)What software/hardware have you installed just prior to this issue starting? Backtrack your steps and chances are you'll discover a conflict with recently installed apps or hardware.
