I've been trying to install various OSs on a computer i just got for free few weeks ago. but for some reason, the computer doesn't seem to like any of the windows.
basically when I try to install win 2k pro or xp, it goes through the entire installation process up to the "copying files.." part without a problem. when it's done copying files, it basically restarts and then is supposed to go into customization.
so i take the CD out to have it re-boot up on its own. however, when the computer restarts, in the bootup step, it returns a message "No Bootable Media..Error loading operating system".
I've run into same problem with 2000 server, 2000 advanced server, and xp as well on this machine. I don't think the problem comes from the hardware, though, b/c Linux (RH 7.3) works fine on the machine.
I think somehow the bootup doesn't get written into the system during the "copying files" step.
can somebody tell me what to do?
thx.

Do a low-level format (Debug) and start with the lowest OS first, i.e 95 then 98 then 2k then XP. I don't know where Linux should go, though. I would probably install all the MS OS'es then use a boot manager. Additionally, it will help to have the different os'es on different partitions.

thx a lot, but actually i wasn't talking about having multiple OSs on one computer. I meant having tried installing different OSs, one at a time making the whole harddrive one partition.
so basically even when having only win2k on the machine, it still can't find bootup. from the previous "copying files" step.
thx.
