There is a free dvd codec plug in called "freedvd" (a google search will find it I cant remember the exact url) which works with Media player, however it does not work as well as a decent stand alone player such as WinDVD or PowerDVD, if you are determind to use Media Player then give it a try, I have tested it with both Windows 2000 and XP and it does work.
