This weekend I installed Win 2000 final and it detects a device I don't know: VID_04E6 PID_80000040 Does anybody have an idea what this could be? I already uninstalled all the cards in my computer so i really have no idea.
Thanx

Vid_04e6 pid_80002000 If I disconnect it, it
goes away. So much for win 2000 & scanners.
Could not find anything on microsoft sight.

VID_04E6 PID_80000004

After I plugged in my HP 4M-Plus laser printer and HP 5100c scanner, I received this message. At the same time I also changed the USB port for my Intel Create & Share camera (that is what I thought was causing the error).

As of now, my Intel camera and my HP Scanner DO NOT work, however my printer DOES work.

If you know what this code means, PLEASE TELL ME!

Also, if you know how to get the INTEL camera to work in WIN2000 Professional, I would like to know that too!

FROM MICROSOFT TECHNET:

USB devices use descriptors to identify the device, its capabilities, and the protocols it uses. A descriptor contains a Vendor ID (VID) and Product ID (PID) that tell the computer exactly which drivers to load. An optional serial number differentiates one device from another of the same type. Older devices might have a Plug and Play ID, which can also be used to identify the device type and subtype.

I had the same problem, with the message mentioning VID_04E6 PID_80000004. I was trying to install an HP ScanJet 5200c, by means of the parallel port. I was having a great of trouble, but the HP web site mentions going to www.scmmicrosystems.com and downloading the file epstw2k.exe. Run this file (it unzips itself) in a temp directory, then when Windows 2000 Pro starts searching for a driver for the above mentioned device, direct it to the temp directory. After doing this, Win 2K detected my scanner correctly.

Me too the same problem guys. I have a Parrallel Port Umax 2000P Scanner, Which is not supported in Windows 2000 as stated by the Umax Company. I suppose VID and PID as rightly pointed out by "James Hohenthaner" in response number 6 stands for any device that is not recognizable in Win2K.

Thanks.

I have also experienced the same VIP / PID error message while installing my parallel port operated HP 5100C scanner on Win2K. The VID_04E6 PID_80000004 error seemed to be the message from hell. Tried installing numerous drivers, to no avail, in fact no driver would work until I read this forum. The recommendation from Chuck Deason to download a parallel/scsi driver worked with NO hitches. Excellent recommendation.

Sincerely and
Many Thanks

I also have the same problem with a Visioneer 7600 Parallel One Touch. Tony Mathis reported this but I see no solution. Tried Chuck Deason's suggestion but no luck. The message reports a PID_80000040. Has anyone correctly installed the visioneer 7600 parallel one touch on W2k provessional?

Found this on HP for the 5100C and 5200C scanners. If you install the win2000 update a second time it will finally install the device properly but follow the directions without short cutting it. Found that it's the only way.
