Comment: I have a Win2k PC that I need to fdisk and reload from a CD. But the only CDrom I have is an external drive. I need to make a boot disk that will load my CDrom drivers. I tried a Win98 boot disk but it didn't work.

Reply: (edit)The Win 98 boot disk supports internal CD ROM drives, only, as is the case of the 4-floppy boot disk set made off Win 2000. The only solution is to visit the CD-ROM mfg's website, and look for the DOS driver. They propably will also have instructions on how to prepare a boot disk, e.g. usually means adding their driver, and an appropriately scripted autoexec.bat file to your Win 98 boot disk.

Reply: (edit)Create a Windows 2000 boot disk using the MAKEBOOT command (run the MAKEBOOT A: command, found in the BOOTDISK directory of the Windows 2000 installation CD). Booting from a Windows 2000 boot disk will cause the setup program to run automatically.

Reply: (edit)That is the very same set (from Windows 2000 CD)I spoke of, above. It only provides CD-ROM support for internal CD-ROM drives. Anyone who has used it with an external CD-ROM drive, please post.
