I need to use NT4.0 per my IS people when connecting to the office network. I'm getting a new laptop with Win2000 preinstalled. Can I dual boot for Win 2000 on the road and NT in the office?

Dude, I'm pretty sure it's possible. I know NT has a slightly older version of NTFS than 2000's. If I were you, I'd try to install NT first, and on a sepearate partition using both OS's NTFS file systems on both partitions.

Yet this can be done. Best way is to install NT 4.0 first, then Win2K second. That way you end up with the 2K version of the loader. You could probably start with the 2K loaded first but you would end up needing to do a repair on the 2K install to get the loader back. Be sure to use different IP address AND machine names.

Yes, Sam is correct. My system is setup this way. Loaded NT 4.0 first, only have one partition, then loaded Win2K. Works like a charm. I haven't had any problems at all.

Make sure that you install service pack 4 or greater on NT 4.0 before you install Win2K. Otherwise they won't be able to read each others version of NTFS.

Your IS people don't know what they're doing.
