I have the same problem I saw the other guy had on another post concerning the problem with boot-up. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I've had Win2k for awhile--so I'm trying to figure out which program, application or drivers is causing it. This is what I have. Let me know if you have any ideas.

P3 500; 256 mg ram (PC100)
Diamond Viper770/TNT2ultra (Detanator driver 6.18)
I/0 48x spinmagic cdrom
Iomega ZipDriver 250 (2.5 version ioware)
floppy drive
Western Digital Expert 17 gig (ATA66)
BE6 Motherboard (ATA66 Controller)
Soundblaster Live! SoundCare (Livewire 3.0)
Kingstone T30 Ethernet Card (for ADSL)

I've reinstalled win2k again and have the same problem after installing everything again.

This is what I install.

win2k oem
win2k sp1
diablo ii
quicken 2001
windows office 2000
windows office 2000 (update)
internet explorer 5.5 (various critical fixes)
drivers (listed above)
real audio
diskkeeper defragmenter
change registry to turn on udma66 (may be the problem here, but the other guy didn't have this--he had udma 33).

I don't have a problem at first. It usually starts after I install office and/or quicken. It basically boots up past the windows 2000 logon screen till you get to the blue screen where it should go to password log-in (which i have on automatic). It doesn't exactly hang--it just slows super slow. It accesses the harddrive in super-small spurts. I'm assuming it would eventually log-in... (like in 10 minutes)... if I hit reset, then it speeds through it without a problem. I hate having to boot-up twice to long on to my computer.

Therefore, it hasn't hit start-up programs yet... it must be hitting something in the registry that's making it crawl.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you installed the latest bios for your BE6 - the BE6_TH.BIN?

Have you had the problem just after installing w2k?

I actually haven't installed the latest driver for the BE6--since it only corrects the light that stayed on, on the keyboard. I always wondered why that was. I'll do it anyway since it won't take that long and see if it changes anything. Who knows right.

I don't have the problem after installing win2k. I have it after a certain point, usually after I start installing the large packages like office and quicken and possibly win2k service pack and office service pack.

Heck, the other guy had the same problem. For all I know, it could be the detanator drivers.

I guess i'm going to have to do some testing and see what finally triggers it. But that will take hours of reinstalling again. I'll try that this weekend.
