Folks!

Help me out here! I just got a DELL Dimension XPS T700Mhz Pentium III w/MMX, 128 MB RAM, Aztech MDP 3880-W(U) 56K PCI Fax/Modem, with Windows 2000 installed by DELL.

It came with several ISP's and I have tried AOL and Compuserve (had a previous account). AOL will not allow me to do anything once I had logged in and was able to access my previous email account at Compuserve. In both cases, I was unable get into the Internet.

I have also tried the other ISP's provided by Windows 2000, but was not able to log into any of them.

The modem seems to work fine, it allowed me to register with Microsoft!

I have also tried loading a "freeInternet" with their program that I had received over my machine at work, but it refused to login to the net.

... Anyone know what's going on, please respond.

Thanks,

Shamim.

I just bought a Compaq iPAQ with Window2000 with a 500Mhz processor, legacy free, all USB ports and it won't allow Internet access. I spent all day Thurs with Compaq Tech Support and they were bewildered! I need help, too. I tried AOL, Compaq's own ISP, MSN, and a local ISP. No Go!

Most of these crappy provider, want to connect internaly withing the program but these don't leave a connection parameter in Dial Up, trash them and use a provider that allows you to put the parameters your self and not try to take control of your machine

I have the same problem if I login using anything other than the Administrator account. Dial-up would work fine but IE wouldn't be able to retrieve any Web page. The ping command works fine though.

I suggest you login as Administrator and try again to see if there is any luck.

Hi,

I did not realize more people are having the same problem. Yes, I was logged in as an Administrator.

DELL support is asking me to get a new phone cable. Which is a tad worn out and a fairly long one, so I plan to get a new cable at Radio Shack. I did install two new modem updates for Aztech 3880W(U)-Data/Fax Modem, Windows 2000.

Yup, I am grasping at the straws! I wish I had gone for iMAC, but the woman wanted one that will allow her to work on Windows/Word and Excell. Next, time I will switch her out :-)! Seriously, folks I thought I was doing me a favor getting the Windows 2000, since I work in an NT environment as a developer.

I will fill in more, after I tryout the new phone cable and one more down load on the modem that I got at DELL's web site.

HELP!
