On a win2000 adv server machine wich was working just fine, win2000 has just lost the network cards. IIS in unable to connect to the local machine as it has no ip anymore, but the machine is still responding (very slow) from vnc. Any idea on how to recover the network adress?

I assume you have re-started? The problem could actually be the physical network cards. Try replacing them.
