I tried reinstall but reported STOP:c0000221 unknown Hard Error and restart&restart&restart.... What can I do to get it back to work without format hdd? It's ntfs partitioned.

You'll need to try and narrow down the cause. Is this a Laptop or a dekstop or a server ? What's the configuration; Ram/hard Drive/System board/Video/Network Card, etc ?

for now if your just anxious, create the Four Install floppies from the makeboot folder. After you've made them, insert Disk 1 and reboot. This should provide MORE information if theres a failure at some point or it may get you past the problem all together. There's just not enough information at the moment to KNOW why or whats causing the STOP and restart error.

don't listen to that dude - mne monix. he must have alot of time on his hands, along with alot of vaseline. take your loss and format the c: drive. then reinstall and MAKE SURE you upgrade to SP1 for win2000. mine did the same thing. luckily i had a one gig partition for the os and didn't lose any raw data. also, make sure you immediately get the latest video card driver for your v-card. this is keeping windows from booting. it just goes into a loop.

Well - you are making a lot of assumptions about users levels and thier errors.

I'm not going to get into a verbal right/wrong thing here. To each their own. Everyones approach is different.

If all you have to say is This person is wrong and MY Way is the right way, ya need to check yourself. DUDE !

Thanks both of you and pls stay claim. My desktop is an IBM PIII450GL, 30Gb Hdd, 192Mb Ram, SP1 installed. I'd removed all add-on cards but still samee result. Nothing seems to be hardware failure. Can virus caused this? I'd tried booting from 4 floppies created by CD doesn't help to overcome the error, reinstall doesn't help. Lucky thing is I can get into ntfs under \winnt. How can I change registry to remove or pass through things windvd installed?

have you actually tried starting up in safe mode and removing the WinDVD program.
i've had a lot of failures (the new and improved BSOD) with server and advanced server, but not w2kpro

I missed that in your first post Ronald, "with STOP:...KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED after installing Windvd2000 ". After you installed Win DVD, ahhh.

Have you gone into safe mode (if able to) and remove/uninstall the DVD Application ?
and check the Startup folder to to if the DVD app has put anything in Startup.

Re-install doesn't help. Do you mean a re-install over the top of the existing Windows 2000 install or a Freesh re-install, deleteing the partitions and the works ?

I'd tried every options in safe mode without success. The reintall was place over existing win2k 'cause don't want to loss the partition. I'm going to resize the partition so I can install another win2k to boot up, or convert ntfs to fat32. Can partition magic help on doing these?

I've had this problem before, here is exactly how to fix it:

1. Boot from the Windows 2000 CD or your four floppies, and get to the recovery console.

2. Perform a ListSVC command at the prompt

3. Look for and disable these three files:

1) cdr4vsd 2) cdrpwd 3) cdudf

For example, type "disable cdr4vsd" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER. Proceed to disable the remaining two drivers. After disabling all 3 drivers, type "exit" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER to restart your computer.

Your machine should come back up. You probably need to get the new Adaptec Easy CD Creator Version 4. Actually, its not probable.. This is what is causing your errors... guaranteed.

Good luck !

Hi Glenn, I followed your procedures and found cdr4vsd only. I disabled all services related to CD*** then exit and ENTER, failed again. From partition magic it reported the volume was not dismount properly. I get no idea how to clear this error where I guess the cause of hardware error coming from win2k.

Hi,

I am having exactly the same problems on my DELL inspiron 5000e laptop. It is a 750 Mhz Intel PIII with 256 MBRam. For me everything was working fine until yesterday as I was done watching a DVD on my laptop that my OS (win 2000 professional) crashed and went into this loop with KMODE_Exception_handled message.

I will try to use the recovery console and the steps mentioned by Glenn, but Ronald, you have been able to fix this problem please contact me on my e-mail address to help me out.

Thanks a lot

AllRight!!!! Mr Glenn you rock!!

It worked for me !! I found the "cduduf" and disabled it. I also disabled a "cdr4_2k" and my system now reboots correctly rather then go into the infinite loop or trying to reboot.

It would be great if you could tell me more about this problem or send me some information about where I read on why this happened and how to avoid it in the future. I am getting a bunch of errors after win 2000 rebooots about some missing DLL's and would like to know more about this problem.

Once again, thanks all.

Chaitan

I can't solve the problem still. By temporarily installing another hard drive(win2000 also) I can see all data. So should I remove all winnt related directories to make it bootable again?
