Hi,
When I clean-install win2000 on a win98 machine without formatting the hard drive, I restarted the computers and the normal win2000 setup blue screen appears. After the blue screen, it says Inaccessible_boot_device and tell me to "check for virus, remove any newly installed hard drive........run chkdsk /f to check for hard drive corruption..." Well, I tried running chkdsk /f and my hard drive has no problem. I've tried 3 times but got the same result!

Next, I decided to boot from win2000 cd...but after few minutes or blue screen it says,"flashpoint.sys not found" or something like that and it will not boot up!!!

What should I do to solve the problem now??? Should I have reformat the computer in the first place???

Response is greatly appreciated!

is this an original win 2k disk? if so you can clean install win 2k after formating your drive with fdisk. this will surly resolve any corrupt install headaches. remember after you format your drive you will be without an operating system so check your install disk first.

Inaccessible boot device bsod is usually a mbr (master boot record) problem, either corrupted or whatever. If it were me I would have fdisked then installed fresh to alleviate any potential install problems

It is possible that you are running a machine with ata 100. W2K did not support ata 100 before SP2. When installing watch for the prompt to hit F6 to install scsi drivers. Hit F6 and when prompted use the drivers for the ata 100.
When you are installing, and it hits the reboot stage, it can no longer find a hard drive as it sees ata 100 as a scsi device and wont find it as an IDE device.
