PC....Siemens p876 128ram 8g hard disk Bios phoenix 4.06 rev 1.17.1170 Question... When either upgrading from win98 or doing a clean install, the cd setup loads drivers, gets to loading NTFS drivers, then the next message "windows is starting win2000" and the pc reboots itself and starts doing the same installation . There is no incompatible hardware or software.

When it reboots, do you hit any key to boot from a CD? If so, don't. Otherwise, try removing any extra hardware you don't need to get the OS installed, then boot from the CD, format the drive within the OS setup, and try installing it again.....
Fdisk and format your HD from a Win 95/98/Me boot disk with FAT/FAT32 depending on your need. Don't forget to RESTART after you format. Then copy the I386 folder from the CD to the HD. Take the CD out, then install from the HD by the following command (if you copy it to the C:)
C:\i386\winnt
This way you'll be sure that the files on the CD were fine, if they weren't you wouldn't be able to copy them to the HD. Also it will install much, much faster.
Let me know if you need step-by-step instructions.
