I have an IBM laptop with an extra hard drive adapter. I have 2 hard drives, both with win2000 installed. I successfully booted from my primary hard drive whilst the secondary one was in place. I removed the secondary drive, and now cannot boot from the primary. It looks like Windows has magically changed the system partition from drive C: to D: . Help !!

Assuming that there is a hard disk partition that is formatted and usable you can do this. Boot up from the win2000 CD. Do a secondary install in a different directory (e.g. winnt1). Boot up your system from that directory and then change the partition name to C.

If you edit the boot.ini file correctly on the first hard disk, you will be able to boot to either from the startup menu.
