Comment: Hi all, i got a problem wid my win 2k machine. I was locked out of my own account because of the password retype threshold ( yes i know, pretty stupid ) and then while trying to change the premissions, i accidentally deleted that user account (even more stupid). Now im in a major pickle, because all the documents in the old users account are inaccessible to me. No matter what I log in as (Admin, Powwer user, identical account params as the original), the docs are locked from me. HELP ME OUT!!!!! Anthony.

Reply: (edit)Ouch ! Re-creating the old user will not work because they have a different security tag assigned, which NTFS uses to validate against the permissions of the file/directory/drive This is why Microsoft say Disable users instead of deleting And this is also why you should never assign permissions only to one account The only way to access these files is to either move the drive onto another Windows 2000 machine, and create the user account or re-install the existing machine and re-create the account Basically you need Windows to get rid of the old user you deleted, which will then enable the new user access This will work ! Reply: (edit)So why don't you logon as administrator & take ownership of the folders/files from the security permissions tab?
