Clustering is in win2k advanced server, it allows several machines to be linked togeather and be seen/used as one server to the users. I've never set one up, but it is used to serve up very, very large databases and such, or to insure a very high degree of fault tolerence.
I don't know of any sitiuation where I would need such a large array of server power. I could only see such a set up being used on a server that absoulutly had to be up 24/7 without any failures.

It is a means of preventing data loss using many servers working together to load balance, prevent down time and generally give a system 99% reliability. It is too big a subject for this site.
There are complete books and courses written about the subject that will tell you how to do undertake it. I suggest you just use a good search engine and look for clustering.
It is performed using several windows 2000 advanced servers or datacentre servers but you can also use Linux for an alternative
