Hi,

I have 2 comps both running win2k pro. One is connectd to the linksys broadband router+AP and the other is connected to the Wireless network adaptor (linksys). I have enabled DHCP on the router.

The one connected to the router gets the address assigned by the router. But the other comp cannot find the router hence it gets itself an address which win2k client assigns itself by design (169.254.x.x).

I think this is a Os problem more than anything else can any one suggest something...the funny thing is if I were to manually configure and assign all the IP/GATEWAY/ DNS etc it works.

Thanks
APurva

The 169.254.x.x is an APIPA address i.e. it cna't get address from the DHCP service.

Think your making things more complex than they need to be wiht only 2 computers I'd be inclined to set up static addresses for the 2 machines.

Yep, always good to have a play.

Its possibe that your router is not able to forward broadcast traffic (how the client will find DHCP server). I think this is unlikely but is worth checking. Your router should be RFC compliant to route broadcasts.

Tis could explain why it works when to configure it manually.

Well RFC compliantt should be no prob as it is linksys (CISCO)..dont think they will take out a product which is not RFC compliant.

And I checked the routere setup I do have it on broaadcast..maybe a port is not opened..?...oh well..
