I have Windows 98 Second Edition on my primary drive C: I have Windows 2000 Pro on my second drive (D:). I dual boot, when I start up, it asks me what OS I'd like to use. The problem I have is, I need to format drive C: and reinstall Win98, but I've found out in the past that if I do this, I won't get the prompt asking me what system I want to run.
If I format C: and reinstall Windows98 on C:, how will I be able to get the dual boot option back?
I'm learning still.. I've been at this for many many years. Win 9X is NOO problem mon. The only reason I know what I know is from experience. Blowing it up, and having to start all over again and again, but this time, Im at a loss for resources when it comes to Win2000. Please help :o)

Reformat c:, when done installing W98 reboot the puter with the W2K setup discs at one point it will give you several option clik on the one to repair

Dave, you need to copy the boot.ini, ntdetect.com, & ntldr hidden system files from the root of C:\ to a floppy and then copy them back afterwards. Just set the folder options to show all files & you'll see them. Then you'll have everything back. Reformatting C:\ & installing Win98 won't put thme back.

Yep, do the repair afterwards, and repair the bootup sequence. Keep a copy of ntdetect, ntloader, boot.ini etc.. and copy them back before the repair. I've done this plenty of times with NT4 and it works fine.

The easiest way to get it to work right after the format is actually to go into FDISK and set the D: drive as the active drive. That's it.
