win 2k services.exe - run down CPU

My friend's old gateway is usually pretty fast. She is running win2000 on a x86 and for some reason one day the services.exe program started running down the processor really bad. The computer is running slower than anything right now. Please help

You have a service that is having trouble. Right click on "My Computer" and click "Manage." Expand "Services and Applications" and click "Services." Look for a service that says something like "Starting" in the status column. This is the one thats causing problems, stop it. Depending on what the service is, you may want to just disable it altogether if its nothing important. Otherwise try to find info on that repairing problems with that serivce.
