I have a Dell Latitude notebook running Win 2K Professional. Suddenly it won't start up but gives a message "STOP C0000135" - the dynamic link library WINSRV could not be found in the specified path "Default Load Path". This has rendered the machine useless...and I don't have the original Win 2K CD-ROM to reload the system.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim

Go to the Above Url. There you should get your answer.

Thanks for the follow up....but the article you reference relates to NT 4.0. I'm using Windows 2000 Professional. The process worked well up to a point, then the instructions didn't corelate to my system.
Is there something similar for Win2K? The problem they describe is identical to the problem I'm having....right down to the file "winsrv.dll".
Thanks,
Jim

Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4 are almost identical. In fact, Windows 2000 is version 5.0 of NT (and for the record XP is NT 5.1).
I haven't read the MS Knowledge Base article, so I don't know how useful my advice will be, but under Win2000 there is probably an equivalent setting, registry key or program in a slightly different location to WinNT4. For example, some files could have moved from C:\WINNT to C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32.
Also, try obtaining a copy of Windows 2000 Pro OEM CD. You've got a license to use Windows 2000 with your laptop, so I don't see there being any legal trouble using another Win2k CD to install the OS (if there is, then the world should start switching to Linux ASAP). Just a word of advice, though, try to get Win2k with as high a service pack as possible ready-installed. Dell in their wisdom have probably supplied a dreaded 'Recovery CD', that everyone hates, to recover your system. If that is the case then you will probably need to either use Recovery CD to re-install, or the better option is to get a proper CD for each 'pre-installed' piece of software and install everything yourself.
To help ensure your system does not malfunction again, make sure you install the latest Win2000 service pack and update Windows with Windows Update regularly.
