Someone recomended for me to update my BIOS....but????thats probly my last resort. I have also been thinkin' of buyin a USB modem....and not worry bout the COM ports????.....
CAN SOMEONE HELP????.....I NEED ASSISTANCE REAL BAD!!!

Hey, same problem here except 2K detects COM and does not detect LPT1 where my printer is. Running a dual boot with ME and LPT1 is OK there. ??

If you have an outdated Bios (1999 or older) then you really should take the advise.
Updating the system Bios is the single best thing to do after installing Win2K to solve hardware problems.
If your system does not see the Com/printer ports then install them. Go to Control Panel and click on Add New Hardware and follow the instructions.
Install the latest Bios and save yourself the headaces.

You really should always update you BIOS !!BEFORE!! installing Windows 2000. It helps prevent a lot of problems. But here is my suggestion.
1.Run the BIOS update
2.Run an "in place upgrade"
An in place upgrade is reinstalling Windows 2000 on top of its self. It will remove any WINDOWS updates, including IE updates.I worked for Microsoft for a year supporting Windows 2000. And this is your best option.

Jake your the guy we need on this site. There is a problem that is popping up more and more around here.
It's the "I can boot to the internet but none of my software connects to anything, problem".
I formated and started over,but there are people still fighting this issue.
What happens is this;
your unit will connect to your Homepage, but in some cases no email is retreivable, and in all cases the IE 5.5 will not connect to anything else except the home page. None of the software titles like Nortons Antivirus, that has an update page to contact, will connect either.You can uninstall TCP/IP all day long with no change. You can over-install Win2K onto itself, no change. I had Microsoft send me a diagnostic program, but when they looked at the data they said there's nothing wrong.
I have notice on this site alone 4 other people with the same problem.
Think about it and start a new post so I can find you. Everyone thinks it has to do with the DNS and TCP/IP, but screwing with it has never changed a thing.
