Hi,
Yesterday when i tried to boot my Win 2k pro machine, everything went fine until after the loading screen with the blue background. After that, I'm presented with blank screen. I rebooted several times and tried with safe mode also, but still getting the same blank screen. This is dual boot machine with windows 98. There is no problem with 98, but it is happening only with win 2k. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
-ch

Is the blank screen now black or blue?
If black could be a video card problem. Blue, possibly a OS problem.

You might want to do a search of this site for answers to this very problem. Before you do, however, scan for viruses. There is one out there called bkdr.ircflood (it's a trojan) that causes these symptoms. If your system is clean, search this site, I saw some other fixes that involve modifying the registry. Good luck!

Thanks for your responses. The blank screen appears in blue color. I also tried logging in as different users, but still seeing the same problem. As soon as i logged in, the blue screen appears and nothing won't come up after that. This is very strange because i am using the same system (win2k) from past 6 months and never saw this kind of behaviour. Need check for viruses and if that doesn't solve the problem, the only option is to reinstall win2k. Am i right?
I searched the whole site but didn't found the exact remedy for this bug.
Thanks

at boot time after you hear the beep from your bios imediatly hit the f8 key when the menu pops up select (not safe mode) vga mode
load this modego to device manager
check to see if video card is corect model
if not change or download latest drivers etc
or change to generic driver (only 16 colors (not 16 mill))

You should be able to access programs through task manager. Connect to the internet by clicking on the iexplore icon in the programs/internet explorer directory. Go to a site called www.housecall.antivirus.com and have it scan your computer. It will find the virus if you have one.
Good luck!
