win 2k only runs in safe mode

i just installed the win 2k and it freezes in
regular mode--no ctl alt del--but in safe
mode it works not well but works. it
freezes also but i can ctl alt del
please help

I have had the same problem, what you need to do (or what I did at least) is turn on the compuer holding down the F8 key, when the menu comes up choose "Boot into last known good configuation" (something like that). Once it boots, if you can get into Win2k and get to your system properties go to ADVANCED --> Startup and Recovery --> and choose not to use the safe mode auto restore feature. You may also want to try installing a new service pack. Keep in mind that if you boot into the last known good configuration you may (unless you can/have back(ed) it up) lose all your previous configuration data.

You may be having a hardware issue. I've seen several instances where Win2k did not detect the network card properly. It resulted in the same issue you are speaking of. Under safe mode you should check the device manager to verify if all the hardware was installed correctly and that there are not any errors/conflicts.
