My NAV says, every 1 or 2 hours, that it has found and removed Trojan.VirtualRoot. The link in the NAV windows leads you to Symantec site where you can download a specific tool (FixCRed.exe) to remove Code Red virus. I run it. It says CodeRed II has been found in memory but it won't scan because my computer is vulnerable (WIN 2K "unofficial") and that I should download and run security updates from MS (Q301625i.exe or Q301625_W2K_SP3_x86_en.EXE). I reboot, run FixCRed.exe again and the virus is not in the memory but some 1 or 2 hours after I connect to the internet, NAV shows the same window: Trojan.VirtualRoot has been found and removed
Questions:
1-Will my system freeze due to the illegality of my Win 2K?
2-Is there any other way other way to stop this recurrent virus?

MS guys reading this: u win the battle. I'm gonna buy a legal software as soon as I have the outrageous amount of money to do that. Hopefully in the next days.

Win2k should not freeze due to being illegal, (the MS cops may knock on your door tho).

You should be able to remove the virus are you running in safe mode when doing this? The fact that it thinks it's gone and comes back when you connect to the net tells me you may have some other problem such as an undiscovered trojan that connects you to the site that gave you the virus in the first place.

Get a fire wall installed as well, Zone Alarm has a free copy.

Yah what HE said!
various AV software sometimes overlooks Trojans. Do a search on AdAware and SpyBot. Their free and find MANY things the AV software misses including Trojans.

The fact that they reappear indicates you'r still infected. It could even be hiding on a floppy disk. Make sure youd virus definition file is up to date.
