Thanks for responding. I'm running Win 2K Pro at work and even the desktop support can't find out what's going on. My colleague got the same system and is running perfectly. I have an Win NT machine at myh desk as well and it's plugged into the same splitter and never has any freezing problem, so I think it's my computer. All applications run fine, even downloaded SP1 and SP2 and have the latest firewall client. Browser freezing is the problem.
Specs:
Vid card ATI Radeon 32MB w/latest drivers. 256MB RAM. 500MHz PIII. 10Gb Hard Drive.

Browser just freezes randomly every minute and freezes for about 30sec-min. then opens intended url fine. I can open another browser during the frozen browser and that will work or not work randomly.

This will occur after rebooting me computer and opening just 1 IE window, so it's not like I'm taxing my system with many apps open.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot guys...I've been painfully using my 2k machine at work and haven't found many answers on the net.

First off, I'd suggest you disbale the firewall client and try it without that running.
Then you might try REinstalling Service Pack 2 (you don't need to install SP1 since it's incorporated into SP2).
Then reinstall your web browser (might try IE 6).
If THAT doesn't work, try downloading and installing Netscape and seeing if you have the same problems (this lets you know if it's the browser or something outside the browser)
You might also look into the Event Viewer to see if any errors are being logged that may be affecting your system.
Might do a new post with any more info.....

Did you try the Netscape idea? I've had a few machines (mostly Windows 95/98, but still) that had problems with Internet Explorer, yet Netscape functioned on them (just to test and see if it works). Also try disabling your firewall for a quick test.

Another thought, pop open your task manager and put up your processor performance (the little graphic that shows how much is being used). Leave that up in the forefront and surf the web. See if it suddenly spikes when your browser freezes. Maybe you've got something running out of whack that is checking the files and sucking up resources (an antivirus program maybe?). Just an oddball thought worth looking into quick......

Ive got 3 gateway machines with WIN2K SP2 and IE6 that are doing the same thing. I have reinstalled everything including the OS. Still does it. Looks like a bug with IE6 and WIN2k maybe SP2
