hi guys,
i have a win2000 server with DNS and active directory installed and another machine win win XP with service pack 2.problem is that-I am not able to join the domain from win XP.Errors reported are as follows:-- Host (A) records that map the name of the domain controller to its IP addresses are missing or contain incorrect addresses.
- Domain controllers registered in DNS are not connected to the network or are not running.
Am i missing something.pls guide me.

I had the same problem when trying to network a winXP machine to a win2000 advanced server machine ,,, UNTIL!!! I set up my network with static IP address ,,, DHCP in my router config,Just didn't seem to do the trick,,,
So How is yours configured? DHCP ? or Static ?
Anyway, Should be a simple enough operation , Even with DHCP , server configuration. As long as the domain controller is configured to be the server and the DNS server addresses that are in the Network neighborhood are set to first use that server. ( the win2000 server that is) I can look around for some more complete Info... And provide a link if neccessary ,
A few things someone might need to know ,,,
How do you connect the two computers?
How do you connect to the internet,,
What kind of a account have you set up on the domain controller to allow xp to connect?
Not sure of anything else... Yet,,
I apologize if at the moment these questions seem to not be necessary , But the answers would help pinpoint a few configuration changes that may or may not need to be changed ,,
