My Atapi cd rom stopped working shortly after I installed a cable modem. I get this device confliction code 31 error. I have tried uninstalling everything that could possibley have a conflict sepratley and all at once. I have even tried unplugging the devices and uninstalling. Lastly I brought in a portable Phillips PCRW404 CdROM/RW. The same conflict comes up here too. Any Suggestions?

Error Code 31 :
A device attached to the system isnot functioning. It isnot a device CONFLICTING code.
What i would do is unplug and uninstall the portable Phillips PCRW404 CdROM/RW.
Then : be sure to have a W2K driver for this device (search for it) , install the driver and plug in the CDRW.
You could check the HCL of microsoft if this CDRW is W2K compatible : if it is maybe it is plug and play and the W2K recognizes the CDRW without installing a driver.
