can any patient guru please explain step by step how to clone a Win Server and Workstation machine to spare Hard drives for back up reasons...I normally do it with Disk clone with no problems on NT but Win 2000 is a real bummer. Basiclly I want to be able to just plug the spare drive in and go.

I just copy the partitions or disk to disk normally but i have never done an image file before..the last time I got it wrong and lost data..you know the story "once bit twice shy"..I have been reading about using Syprep and ghost...I have access to ghost 2003 and sysprep 1.1 my System build is Win 2000 SP1. or failing that can anybody point me in the right direction to a step by step tutuorial site not Symantec they confuse or microsoft they are to also confusing ...I just do not want to lose this data... so any body with the same situation who have successfully done it..please let me know.

Also is there a way to collect all the answer file info off the source machine before cloning, and to automate the setup info back onto the desitination machine with minimum of fuss..the destination machine is the source machine so there is no hardware problems. Gee! what happened to the days when you put one disk in, copied it and off you went! Ah! well the price of security.

But surely there is a quick easier way than sysprep. Why microsoft can't just allow administators the option of having to specify at the installation of Win 2000 sys stage of the source machine the option of saying this disk will be allowed to be cloned in the future.. I just want a straight mirror swop ..disk for disk, so nothing changes only the drives..or am I just missing the point. Because I have been using NT for the past 7 years with no problems in cloning at all.

I use Ghost, works very well. You can also use it across the network, or straight to CD.
